On Saturday 8 October 2016 Makers was so very excited to host the very first Buds & Bloom flower crown workshop taught by the wonderful Debra and Shari from Bouwer Flowers. It was a sunny morning filled with learning and fun, surrounded by the most beautiful flowers, and made extra special through the sharing of an exciting new experience with fellow creatives. Shari and Debra told us about their journey and about Bouwer flowers, taught us about flower care, seasonality and finally instructed and assisted attendees in creating their very own beautiful flower crown. Attendees got to create their own individualised flower crowns in the styles of soft and romantic, bold and dramatic and minimal modern, and each one was nothing short of spectacular! Thanks to Shari and Debra for their fantastic insight into florals and their wonderful guidance.
Our lovely Buds and Bloom attendees were seriously spoilt by an array of incredible local brands including Lulu & Marula, Mervyn Gers, Zana, Ruschka du Toit, Prestwich Collection, Hey Pioneer and Kind Cafe. They were also treated to bubbly and delicious vegan baked goods by Shari.
It was magical to watch everyone’s individual flower crown come to life, they were all incredible! Thank you to all who attended – we truly hope you enjoyed the workshop as much as we did.
We received some lovely feedback from our attendees:
“Makers workshops are the perfect opportunity to network and get to know other creatives, while learning a new or refining an old craft. Highly recommended for anyone who feels the need for creative rejuvenation. ” – Nadia
“Thank you for the wonderful day of learning and creating. Oh and thank you for the beautiful gifts in the gift bag we received, was totally blown away. I can’t wait to start offering flower crowns to my photo sessions. I loved that Bouwer flowers are conscious of the environment and support local farmers. Beautiful business, beautiful women and beautiful flower crowns. Double thumbs up!” – Keara
“It felt slightly personal as it was a small group, you got to interact with the people around you and with the teachers which you could see and feel their passion for what they do. The workshop shop was connected to the space, everything was light, comfortable and friendly. It was a well spent Saturday, I will remember it always along with what I learned which was how to make a Flower Crown by Bouwer flowers. One day I will teach my child or grandchildren how to make one too, all from the memory of this short but sweet experience. Not to mention the vegan treats on the table and champagne!” – Angelica
